When your adult son calls in a panic to tell you that your 21 month old grandson is being admitted to the hospital for seizures and a high fever and wants you there asap–you go.
This is the story of what happened this last week…. It was late at night and several hours away.
Initial blood tests taken were negative so a spinal tap was ordered to rule out meningitis. This also was negative so an EEG was performed and also turned out negative.
Seeing your grandson agitated and needing to be cooled down constantly with ice packs and no diagnosis only brings up that a very serious condition must be the source of this problem.
I was not trained to be a medical doctor so I leave that system to them. However I do know that when the body is out of spinal alignment almost anything can happen.
I asked them about any recent falls and was told that he had several falls involving his head. Knowing that most likely nothing would show up in an x-ray, because of his age, I was not concerned about a fracture. However, I was concerned that being that young, his body has not developed the strength and stability needed to protect himself during a fall. I then evaluated him and detected a problem in his neck.
This is where the story gets interesting.
I very carefully did a specific instrument adjustment to his neck, and from then on he had no more seizures.
The following morning I went back to the hospital and my daughter in law noticed, very astutely, that every time he turned his head to the left his fevers would spike. So she gently turned his head straight or to the right and his fevers would come right down. I was truly amazed by that observation.
I adjusted him again and the following day he was released and he has since resumed being his same old toddler self.
My point in telling this story is to show how important the nervous system is to the entire body. Most people would not consider spinal manipulation the appropriate treatment for seizures or fever.
But as this story has shown… chiropractor is more than just a treatment for the bones, joints and muscles.
